The next generation of Xiaomi’s mid-range is expected to arrive with some changes, and based on what has emerged, they could be epoch-making. Not only is a generational leap anticipated, but the top of the future series would be higher than imagined so far. The leaks portray Redmi Note 17 Pro Max as a true mid-range Camera Phone, without giving up a battery that could be described as generous.
For the upcoming Redmi models, Lei Jun’s company intends to align the lineup with Xiaomi’s main series numerically. So, no Redmi Note 16 but the move to Redmi Note 17 would be planned, with a novelty for the flagship model.
The Pro+ label would have run its course: better to opt for a brand-new nomenclature with no link to Cupertino (sorry for the irony). So we should have Redmi Note 17 Pro Max and, according to the latest rumors, it seems it will be a smartphone with all the hallmarks.
The usual Digital Chat Station has teased some specs: the phone’s name isn’t mentioned, but according to Chinese media and Weibo users it would be the upcoming Redmi Note flagship. The device would aim to be a true Pro Max, with a main camera of 200 MP, a battery of 10,000 mAh and support for 100W fast charging.
Clearly we are talking about the Chinese model and not the Global one: we can take for granted that the international version will be downscaled in some way, but for Asian users the upcoming Redmi Note 17 Pro Max could represent a real turning point.
Remember that the current Chinese Redmi Note 15 Pro+ is equipped with a triple camera setup of 50 + 50 + 8 MP with OIS, telephoto and ultra-wide, unlike the Europe-launched one with a 200 + 8 MP dual camera. Also, in the transition from the original version to ours, the battery changed from 7,000 mAh to 6,500 mAh.
Therefore, the next smartphone would be the natural continuation of a path: an improved camera, more battery life, and certainly there will be some other surprises.
