2026 is shaping up to be a year of great news for the Chinese company: while tests on the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Fold (or MIX Fold 5) enter full swing, the attention of enthusiasts is entirely directed at the mysterious modular smartphone spotted in Lei Jun’s labs. Commercial evolution of the concept showcased at MWC 2025, the new device could rewrite the rules of mobile photography thanks to a system of interchangeable magnetic modules.
The latest rumors surrounding Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable rekindle the debate over the name: the insider who revealed the new details mentions the Xiaomi MIX Fold 5, fueling hopes for the continuation of the line. However, from other sources we know that Lei Jun’s company is expected to fold the foldable lineup into the main series.
The device would arrive as the Xiaomi 17 Fold, but as usual the final word lies with the company – and we remain awaiting confirmations. Regarding the latest news, the leaker claims that the new flagship foldable is in testing and therefore should debut this year.
Moreover, it wouldn’t be alone, as Lei Jun’s house would also be testing a smartphone with modular magnetic elements to improve the camera department. Recall the presentation of Xiaomi’s modular Camera Phone officially spotted at MWC 2025: apparently the concept could have a commercial counterpart.
Unfortunately no further details are revealed but it is clear that these will be Xiaomi’s big novelties for 2026. Also remember that this year the company is expected to launch its first fully proprietary smartphone with a chip, operating system and AI developed in-house.
