Huawei WiFi X is the portable modem with an unconventional design and an extra-large battery

Not only smartphones for the Chinese tech giant, but also routers that challenge conventions and become almost decor elements (and this isn’t the first time). Announced during the HarmonyOS Smart Home event, the new Huawei WiFi X presents itself as a high-performance portable networking device.

Designed to meet the needs of live streamers, travelers and remote-working professionals, the device arrives with a design that blends aesthetics and functionality.

The new portable router aims to solve issues of weak signal and network congestion, offering speeds comparable to those of the best fixed networks. Huawei WiFi X is equipped with an ambitious hardware setup that makes it the first terminal in the world with four transmitters and four receivers (4T4R).

Thanks to the integration of three-carrier aggregation technology and as many as 16 integrated cellular antennas, the device is capable of providing 360° coverage. In optimal conditions it reaches impressive peaks, with a download speed up to 5.3 Gbps and an upload that reaches 1 Gbps.

It is therefore an ideal tool for handling 4K live broadcasts or the rapid transfer of large files, improving streaming fluidity by 100% in low-signal environments compared with high-end smartphones.

A distinctive element compared to traditional routers is the innovative X-shaped folding design. When the device is opened, the raised cross structure allows antennas to be positioned more effectively, increasing signal strength by 13% and addressing at the root the coverage problems typical of mobile scenarios.

Huawei has implemented an advanced cooling system that uses a dual graphene layer and high-thermal-conductivity insulating films, preventing speed drops due to overheating.

The built-in display shows real-time essential information such as signal strength, battery status, and the number of connected devices, eliminating the need to constantly check an app on your smartphone.

Battery life is another crucial aspect: equipped with a 12,000 mAh battery, the device guarantees up to 24 hours of continuous browsing or 20 hours of uninterrupted streaming.

Price and availability

Huawei WiFi X was launched on the Chinese market at a price of 2,499 yuan, approximately €315 at current exchange rates, with several optional data packages ranging from 200 GB to 500 GB per month (in collaboration with China Mobile).

For now there are no details on a European release, but given the track record, it’s not to be ruled out that this router could also make its way to our latitudes.
