Google officially announced the expansion of Search Live, an advanced feature that enables users to search for information by engaging in a genuine real-time conversation with a virtual assistant.
Already tested in the United States within the Google Labs environment and initially limited to the English language only, this technology crosses its original boundaries to reach people in over 200 countries and territories, fully including Italy in this new extended phase of rollout.

The enabling factor for this broad geographic diffusion is the use of the new model Gemini 3.1 Flash Live. This architectural specification is characterized by a strong multilingual orientation, offering anyone the opportunity to dialogue with the search engine in the language they deem most appropriate.
The result is a user experience characterized by continuous and intuitive conversations. The system, in fact, does not stop at merely delivering a vocal answer: on the contrary, the tool accompanies the discussion, pairing the words with relevant links from the web, so that the user can delve into the topic by drawing on accurate textual sources.
Access to the new feature is extremely quick. To begin using it, simply open the Google app, available on both Android and iOS smartphones, and select the new icon similar to that of Gemini Live, placed just below the usual search bar.
Once the feature is launched, you can voice-interact with the assistant, receive clear audio guidance, and continue the conversation by asking additional follow-up questions, just as if you were speaking with a real person.
The big leap in this update is especially realized thanks to the direct camera integration. When describing a problem in words is too complex or limiting, the user can activate their smartphone’s camera to provide Search with a precise and unequivocal visual context.
The perfect combination of vocal and visual inputs generates countless applications to streamline and facilitate daily activities.
There are several practical situations where the joint contribution of these technologies proves essential. During the installation of a new electronic device or a household appliance, for example, it becomes possible to frame directly the various components and ask Search Live in which specific housing a given cable should be inserted.
Similarly, those trying for the first time particular recipes, such as preparing traditional matcha tea, can show the set of utensils just purchased to the smartphone and ask what the exact function of each bamboo or ceramic tool is.
The tool also proves to be an excellent ally for manual work and DIY: by framing a time-worn furniture element, such as an old armchair, one can ask for real-time guidance and tips on the steps needed to reupholster it properly.
Finally, for users accustomed to analyzing the surrounding physical world through the camera, this same bidirectional conversational mode has been skillfully incorporated into the Google Lens application, making it readily launchable with a simple tap on the dedicated option located at the bottom of the screen.
