The day of the debut of Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra is getting closer: the appointment is set for February 28, and although the new models have already been announced in China, it’s likely there will still be a few surprises. On X, the first shots dedicated to Xiaomi 17 Ultra LeitzPhone, an alternative version of the Camera Phone that seems exclusive to some markets, have surfaced.
In the image above you can see side by side the Xiaomi 17 Ultra “plain” and the supposed LeitzPhone Edition variant. The differences are evident: the Leica version is equipped with the iconic red badge, while the writing inside the camera module is oriented horizontally.
Furthermore, the same module features a thick bezel: it would be the Master Zoom Ring, a rotating crown that adds a true manual zoom, as seen also with the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, launched in China last December.
Among other differences we have the Leica Camera Germany logo engraved along the edge of the device; additionally the chassis color is completely black. The software additions include the watermark LEITZPHONE powered by Xiaomi when taking a photo.
But where does the LeitzPhone name come from? We discussed it in this in-depth article, but essentially it’s a way to elevate the flagship above the competition, thanks to the prestige of a historic name even surpassing Leica’s. Leitz refers to Ernst Leitz, a German optics entrepreneur who gave rise to the original company.
So the new name for the top-of-the-line is intended to frame it as a high-end Camera Phone, aimed at professionals and enthusiasts; expect a hefty price tag, since it will be an exclusive model.
