No, this isn’t an early April Fool’s joke, nor a Spotify-branded cremation service: the Swedish company has decided to aim much higher (or much lower, depending on your point of view), launching a collaboration that defies the laws of nature.
Together with Liquid Death, the company has unveiled a tech funeral urn equipped with a Bluetooth speaker and a playlist generator designed to accompany you into the afterlife. Between black humor and marketing, here is how Spotify intends to turn your final journey into a technological event.
Eternal Playlist, this is the name of the device, is a minimalist-design urn equipped with an integrated Bluetooth speaker in the lid. Of course, it’s a gadget and not a real funeral urn; let’s say what the user chooses to put inside is none of Spotify’s business.
Additionally, the service Eternal Playlist Generator has also been launched, which allows you to participate in a kind of poll to create a dedicated playlist, based on the user’s responses and listening on Spotify. In this way it’s possible to create a personalized mix to choose the most suitable soundtrack for the afterlife.
The playlist can be shared with other users and synchronized directly with the new speaker. The latter is available in the United States at a price of 495$, but quantities are extremely limited since there are only 150 units.
Quindi più che un vero prodotto commerciale abbiamo a che fare con un’idea esclusiva e ironica, con un tocco di black humor: la combinazione perfetta per il marketing di Spotify.
