Google I/O 2026, official dates: what to expect?

The anticipation for enthusiasts and developers around the world is finally over. Mountain View has broken the hesitation by officially announcing the details of its most important annual appointment, confirming that the spring tradition will be respected again this year.

Google I/O is the moment when the search giant charts the course for the coming months, outlining the strategies that will influence not only Pixel, but the entire Android ecosystem and the vast world of cloud services and artificial intelligence.

When will Google I/O 2026 take place?

Google has locked down the schedules for the third week of May. The event will officially begin on May 19, 2026 and will run through to the following day, May 20. The opening keynote will start at 10:00 in the morning according to the Pacific Time zone.

This means that for Italian audiences the event will be scheduled at 7:00 PM, a time that has become standard for those following California live streams.

The two days will be packed with sessions: after the main presentation, which usually captures the attention of mainstream media and consumers, there will open a dense series of developer-focused sessions, designed to delve into the latest code and APIs just unveiled.

Where will Google I/O 2026 take place and how to follow it

For the 2026 edition as well, the Android creator brand has chosen to stay on home turf. The event will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, just a stone’s throw from the company’s headquarters.

This outdoor venue has become iconic for the brand, offering a stage that blends the atmosphere of a tech festival with the formality of a corporate presentation.

For those who cannot be physically present in California, Google has confirmed that the entire event will be accessible digitally. The keynote will be streamed live on YouTube and on the dedicated site io.google, allowing anyone to watch the announcements in real time.

It won’t be just passive viewing: the conference will include remote-accessible sessions, maintaining the hybrid approach that has characterized the last few years and enabling global participation like never before.

What new features will Android 17 bring?

One of the undisputed protagonists will certainly be Google’s mobile operating system. Although Google has already released the Beta 1 of Android 17 just last week, the news so far emerging concerns mainly technical aspects and invisible improvements.

The May conference will be the ideal stage to unveil user-facing features, those that will concretely change the way we interact with our smartphones.

It is expected that Android 17 will integrate new camera modes and an even more refined handling for the foldable smartphones, with color profiles and navigation systems capable of adapting smoothly to the screen format.

Another crucial aspect could concern the medical field, with an improvement in pairing and management of health devices.

Note that these innovations will not remain confined to Pixel: Samsung, for example, is expected to integrate much of these features into its update One UI 9 planned before the end of the year, extending the benefits to a wide audience.

Will Artificial Intelligence still be a focal point?

If the 2025 edition was dominated almost exclusively by the AI mantra, everything suggests that 2026 will be no different.

The event has evolved over the years from a celebration of mobile software to a true presentation of the enterprise AI roadmap. The press invites explicitly mention “discoveries” in AI, Chrome and Cloud.

Gemini, Google’s evolved assistant, will likely be at the center of the stage. The focus will shift to the deep integration of this language model within platforms where it is still not very present, such as car infotainment systems and wearables.

Although Gemini has replaced Google Assistant in many areas, its penetration in cars and smartwatches is still in an early phase and the Shoreline Amphitheatre stage seems to be the perfect place to bridge this gap. Moreover, it is not to be ruled out the presentation of new generative models or updates to existing ones, continuing the work done with Imagen and Veo.

Also projects such as Google Beam could return to the spotlight, demonstrating how hardware can serve as a vehicle for the enhanced capabilities of artificial intelligence.
