Want Gemini but hate losing conversations with ChatGPT? Google is preparing the solution

The history of consumer technology has taught us a fundamental lesson: transferring your digital life from one platform to another is often a titanically difficult undertaking.

For years, switching from Android to iOS, or vice versa, has represented a significant deterrent for users, worried about losing contacts, photos and messages.

Today, this same friction is playing out in a new and rapidly rising sector, that of generative artificial intelligence.

Currently, those who actively use chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini find themselves facing an invisible wall. These tools are assistants that, conversation after conversation, build a unique operating context. The user and the AI develop a kind of understanding based on the history of interactions, on projects carried forward together, and on the communication style refined over time.

This accumulated memory acts as a real lock for the ecosystem: changing AI providers today means starting from scratch, losing months or years of contextual training.

Until now, there was no easy way to export your “digital past” from one platform to import it into another, forcing users to a loyalty that feels more forced than a choice.

Google wants to break down the boundaries between AIs

It seems, however, that Mountain View has decided to tackle the problem directly. According to recent code analyses and leaks reported by TestingCatalog, Google is developing a new feature named “Import AI chats”.

The goal is to allow users to migrate their conversations from competing platforms directly into Gemini.

The intended mechanism appears fairly linear and envisions that the user downloads their chat history from the source service then uploads the file directly into Google’s interface.

Although the feature has appeared in the attachments menu with a “beta” label, suggesting an official release not too distant in time, there are still some unknowns.

It’s probable that the tool will be limited to transferring the text of past conversations, without being able to migrate so-called “long-term memories” or the deep personalizations that some competing AIs store separately.

However, the move is a strong signal. Google wants to remove the technical friction that prevents users from leaving competitors to embrace its solution.

Nano Banana Pro and visual quality for professionals

The coming changes are not only about text handling. Parallelly, the tech giant is working to enhance the capabilities of its image generation model, identified in rumors with the name Nano Banana Pro.

The update aims to meet the needs of those using AI for professional and creative purposes, introducing the possibility to download generated images in higher resolutions.

Until now, the default application generated content at 2K resolution. With the upcoming update, users will face a choice: opt for the recommended size, ideal for quick sharing on social and the web, or select the maximum size.

This last option will enable 4K downloading, an essential format for those who need to print their work or use them in high-definition graphic projects, filling a qualitative gap that often limited professional use of these tools.
