Xiaomi adds native support for AirPods with HyperOS 3.1

Lei Jun’s company has solved one of the major problems in the Android landscape: among the novelties spotted in HyperOS 3.1 there is native support for Apple AirPods, which now seem to work without limitations.

Cupertino’s earbuds have a sizeable following even among Android users, but unfortunately with some drawbacks that make the experience incomplete. The solution has come from Xiaomi, at least for the Chinese first beta of the new software.

Among HyperOS 3.1’s new features we also find native support for AirPods

In recent hours Xiaomi announced the start of a new beta phase for its HyperOS: the list of supported smartphones focuses on newer Xiaomi and Redmi devices, while shortly after a first hint of changelog.

However not all the novelties surfaced immediately and now a quite pleasant one is added for lovers of Cupertino’s earbuds. Usually AirPods are limited on Android: no pop-up window, nor spatial audio, and a connection not exactly exhilarating.

The only way to address some of these issues is to use third-party apps, a solution for some but a critical choice for purists. Things could change with the release of HyperOS 3.1: Xiaomi has introduced native support for Apple’s AirPods, at least from what emerged from the new beta version.

The TWS seem to work without limits: there is a pop-up when the case opens, spatial audio is enabled, and the earbuds also appear in the Device Center and the status bar, similar to what’s happening with Xiaomi products. Additionally the Find My Device feature is supported.

This is a feature that earns quite a few points for the Chinese company’s UI. It remains to be seen whether the new feature will be implemented globally since for now we are dealing with a beta version (Chinese).
