Towards the end of last year, Ayaneo had sparked a wave of interest revealing Pocket Play, a gaming smartphone that strongly echoed the aesthetics and functionality of the beloved Xperia Play.
However, for enthusiasts who were considering choosing this device over a traditional high-end smartphone, patience will be required: the launch has been officially postponed.
This decision does not stem from unforeseen technical issues, but from an internal restructuring aimed at improving the overall user experience.
The news of the delay comes directly from the company’s leadership. In a post on the official blog, described as particularly long and detailed, the CEO of Ayaneo, Arthur Zhang, laid out an ambitious plan to reform the company’s shipping and support services.
The main reason lies in the need to clear a significant backlog: several hundred pre-orders related to launches carried out during 2025 have not yet been shipped to customers.
To tackle this logistics challenge, Ayaneo announced the intention to reduce the frequency of campaigns on Indiegogo, a platform that has so far been the main engine of their sales.
The aim is to accelerate the pace at which consoles and devices reach users, shifting the commercial focus toward direct sales via the company’s own website. Additionally, the company has promised to impose tighter shipping timelines and to provide updates much more frequent for any future crowdfunding initiative, seeking thus to restore the community’s trust.
As a direct consequence of this strategic reorganization, the launch of the Ayaneo Pocket Play has hit a snag. According to the original plans, the crowdfunding campaign for the device was due to kick off this very morning. However, Zhang clarified that, although the hardware and software development of the device continues “at full speed”, the launch has been rescheduled.
The new launch window is now planned between the end of January and the beginning of February. This time shift has been calculated to allow the company to implement the new “operational safety measures” and, above all, to grant the logistics team the time needed to process the hundreds of units still awaiting shipment from previous projects.
Although the delay may generate disappointment among the most impatient fans, the move ensures that the Pocket Play purchasing process will be much smoother and more reliable than in the past.
Arthur Zhang’s post did not limit itself to discussing delays, but touched crucial points for anyone who is already Ayaneo customer or is considering a future purchase.
The company is working to offer a standardized policy for defective products (often defined as the “lemon policy”), enhanced warranty and support channels, more efficient ticket management systems, and a decisively stricter quality control.
They may seem obvious steps for an electronics company, but it’s crucial to consider the context: the PC and handheld gaming devices scene has grown at a dizzying pace in recent years. Companies like Ayaneo have moved from small niche projects to producers of complex hardware in record time.
It is therefore understandable, albeit late, that these structural changes are arriving only now. This pause for reflection, then, could represent the moment when Ayaneo stops being just a prolific manufacturer to become a reliable and mature brand.
