Last updated: January 21 – In the end the Magic series has also yielded to the charm of ultra-thin smartphones: it does so with a very elegant and stylish phone, with a Cupertino-inspired look but that ultimately manages to have its own identity. Let’s take a look at all the details ofHonor Magic 8 Pro Air: design, technical specifications, price and availability – but for now the flagship remains in China.
The divergence from Honor Magic 8 Pro Air and its two siblings Magic 8 and 8 Pro is clear: the large circular camera (which reminds us of the Camera Phone nature of the series) is swept away by a completely new look. The Air model follows in the wake of Honor 500, in turn inspired by the iconic and divisive style of iPhone Air.
The smartphone features a triple rear camera, housed in a horizontal capsule module, positioned on the top and center of the chassis. The color options are beautiful, but again it nods to Cupertino: the black and white variants are for those seeking a sober and elegant style while the purple model adds a splash of color. The more exuberant version, and certainly the orange one, is the one that looks toward Apple (and the latest iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max).
The phone has compact dimensions: with an OLED 6.31″ display diagonal, the thickness is a mere 6.1 mm and a featherweight of 155 grams. Still, premium features are not lacking, such as a peak brightness of 6,000 nits, an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader, and an IP69-rated chassis.
Compared to the Magic series siblings and the cousins of the 500 family, Honor Magic 8 Pro Air steps away from Qualcomm and Snapdragon SoCs to take on the eternal rival of the US chipmaker. On board we have the Dimensity 9500, MediaTek’s latest flagship built on 3 nm and equipped with an All Big Core architecture, with a maximum frequency of 4.21 GHz – and a GPU that supports ray tracing.
The battery is a silicon-carbon unit of 5,500 mAh with dual charging: wired up to 80W and wireless up to 50W.
The camera setup remains solid thanks to the 50 MP sensor (1/1.3″, f/1.6) with CIPA 5.0 stabilization, accompanied by an ultra-wide and macro, along with a periscope telephoto lens. The latter features a 64 MP sensor and 1/2″ size, with an f/2.6 aperture, 3.2X optical zoom and up to 100X digital zoom, with CIPA 5.0 optical stabilization.
The new Honor Magic 8 Pro Air debuted in China on January 19, with a starting price of around €616 at the current exchange rate and availability starting on the 23rd of the month. Below you will find all available configurations.
The smartphone was announced only for the Chinese market and at the moment it’s not known whether it will arrive in Italy. Given past trends it’s very likely it will remain homeland-exclusive: Honor has always taken a conservative approach to the international lineup, releasing to Global only the Pro version.
