After unveiling to the world the first tri-fold smartphone Mate XT, the Chinese tech giant does it again. Huawei Mate XTs Ultimate Design is official and is the second tri-fold in the world: here is how things have changed with all the details on design, technical specifications, price and release.
For its second tri-fold, Huawei has chosen a conservative approach, boosting only a few aspects. The design hasn’t been touched: the dimensions are the same, the look is identical (with its octagonal camera) and even the screen doesn’t change.
Huawei Mate XTs is foldable at two points (it is in the shape of a “Z“) and can transition from a large tablet-style surface to a half-size format, down to the size of a traditional smartphone. When closed the display measures 6.4″ diagonally while opened it extends to 7.9″.
When opened fully the panel reaches 10.2″, for even more usable space. There is support for the stylus: it also supports gestures and provides a control button (for playback and presentations).
Nevertheless the Chinese company wanted to push the look a bit: White and Purple color options join the classic Red and Black from the first chapter.
The improvements of the new tri-fold focus on the processor, connectivity and camera: the tech giant has wisely chosen to act only in these areas, and the result is an even more complete device.
The technical specifications of Huawei Mate XTs Ultimate Design take a step forward: from Kirin 9010 to the current Kirin 9020, the same chipset as the Huawei Pura 80 family. The SoC is not officially confirmed, but this has become a tradition for the Chinese company.
There is still satellite communication but remains the standout limitation of the predecessor: the first Mate XT needs to be fully opened to use satellite connectivity, and this also applies to Mate XTs.
Battery
The battery is one of the aspects Huawei chose not to touch: the capacious 5,600 mAh unit returns on this model and works perfectly well, given the unusual format.
There is 66W fast charging and also support for 50W wireless charging; to not miss anything, in both cases reverse charging is also available.
Camera
The camera department also improves: the main sensor remains a 50 MP solution with variable aperture (f/1.4-4.0), RYYB and OIS, and the periscope telephoto does not change (12 MP with 5.5x optical zoom). However this time the ultra-wide sensor increases to 40 MP compared to 12 MP of the predecessor.
All sensors are equipped with an RYYB color filter array, which improves light gathering and image quality, especially in low-light conditions. Completing the setup is also a multispectral (1.5 MP) sensor for color fidelity.
The new Huawei Mate XTs Ultimate Design tri-fold debuted in China at the mega event on September 4, with a starting price of around €2,160 at the current exchange rate. Below you will find all available configurations:
This is a particularly attractive and revolutionary price for the category: the predecessor started at 19,999 CNY for the base 16/256 GB version, so with this second chapter there has been a reduction.
Regarding international release there are no details. Note that Mate XT Global was announced on February 18, 2025, but to date there are no details on sales in Europe.
