The international debut of Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max is already confirmed for this year, but the versions destined for markets outside China may not fully inherit the batteries of the Chinese models presented at the September 23 event.
Revealing it is the insider Kacper Skrzypek, who identified in HyperOS’s source code some strings related to the regional variants of the two devices, both with a capacity lower than that confirmed for the Chinese market.
How the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max battery will change in the Global version
According to what Skrzypek found, the Global variant of Xiaomi 18 Pro, identified in the code with the codename “Hongkong”, would mount a battery of 6,000 mAh, compared to the 7,000 mAh of the Chinese model, all the details in our article dedicated to the debut. It would thus be a cut of about 14% compared to the capacity of the version sold in China.
For the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, the Global variant (identified in code as “Madrid”) would drop to 7,050 mAh, versus the 8,500 mAh of its Chinese counterpart: a decrease of about 1,450 mAh, the most pronounced reduction between the two models.
The insider did not specify whether this reduction in capacity corresponds to a different charging power compared to China, but at least this is unlikely. Typically Chinese models arrive with a battery “trimmed”, while wired and wireless charging should not undergo changes.
Limitations of this kind are not new for Xiaomi or Chinese manufacturers in general: they are limitations often linked to local regulations on the transport and safety of batteries in different markets.
