OPPO officially unveiled ColorOS 17, the new version of its interface that introduces the Fluid Design, a graphical and performance refresh designed to make animations, transitions, and touch response more coherent across the entire system.
Alongside the announcement, the brand also shared the complete release calendar, which involves not only OPPO devices but also those from OnePlus and Realme.
ColorOS 17: the main novelties between Fluid Design and other improvements for graphics and performance
The heart of the update is the Aurora Engine, which integrates into the rendering architecture, paired with Fluid Animation for managing transitions between interfaces.
These are complemented by Elastic Feedback, which stretches or compresses UI elements in response to touch pressure, and Condensate, which makes visual effects more translucent while preserving content readability.
The Polar Light Engine promises a 25% reduction in app startup times and in memory usage during app execution, as well as up to a 30% reduction in rendering load.
In addition, the Tidal Engine delivers measurable improvements: 55.6% more persistence of apps in the background, 35% more overall startup stability, 50% faster scrolling and loading in third-party photo galleries, a 30% jump in mini-program loading, and 15% faster app opening.
The new AI-based features
ColorOS 17 introduces AI Photo Editor, based on the DaVinci model, to remove unwanted objects, reduce motion blur, and adjust colors and tones via textual instructions, with a Reference Image Replication feature that applies colors, lighting, or skin tones captured from a reference image.
AI Memory Gallery automatically creates photo blogs (Plog) via smart curation and AI-generated captions, while the Album Direct Connection links third-party cameras and NAS devices, allowing users to view the latest videos without occupying internal phone storage.
On the productivity front, AI Notes lets you listen and take notes simultaneously during meetings, import books, videos and ideas, and generate editable informational diagrams.
The HeyTap Xiao Bu assistant handles personal commitments via Xiao Bu Space, tracking user activities and priorities. It can also generate travel itineraries, providing assistance with tickets, check-in and car rental.
AI Fluid Cloud offers navigation with active reminders for walking, bus and metro segments, while AI Snap-and-Shoot lets you identify objects, read documents, obtain calorie information, and connect to Wi-Fi simply by using the device’s camera.
AI One-Touch Flash Note automatically saves courier shipment codes and contact information. There’s also a real-time translation feature via connected earphones.
Connectivity, health and safety
Car+ Connectivity directly links the smartphone to the car and includes features such as Walking-Navigation Handover, to seamlessly transfer the navigation screen from the phone to the car display as soon as the user is driving.
For smartwatches we get FatMax, a mode dedicated to customized fat-burning zone identification, together with Sports Fluid Cloud that syncs data like heart rate and calories burned across devices. New smartwatch gestures let you change songs or videos with a double-tap, go back by turning the wrist or double-tapping, and remotely control the camera shutter.
In terms of security, AI Cross-App Anti-Fraud debuts, AI-based face-swapping detection and AI Call Anti-Fraud against scam calls, while accessibility arrives Adaptive Smart Screen Reading, with AI-generated vocal descriptions for texts, buttons and images, plus a voice guide for framing during photography.
