Samsung Electronics is preparing to enter the market for PC processors focused on artificial intelligence-based processing.
According to recent rumors from South Korea, the System LSI division of the tech giant is independently developing a new SoC, internally known by the codename “Gaia”.
The component will specifically target the AI PCs and the so-called “Physical AI”, an area that includes advanced robotics.

The choice of 4 nm manufacturing technology reflects the market’s current need to pair high compute power with reduced power consumption. The Gaia chip is expected to stand out for a design deeply optimized for the NPU, i.e., the hardware unit specifically responsible for handling AI algorithms.
This will enable complex calculations directly on the device, reducing dependence on remote servers and improving efficiency in edge computing, also known as edge AI.
The promise of an excellent performance-per-watt ratio positions this solution as an important asset for both next-generation laptops and intelligent robotic systems, where autonomy and thermal management are critical factors for product success.
A strategic comeback after past attempts
This is not the company’s first experience in PC hardware. Already in 2012 the company had tried to integrate its mobile processors into Chromebooks. That initiative, however, was halted in 2014 due to the performance limitations of the time and a software ecosystem not yet mature enough to embrace such solutions.
The current scenario has changed deeply, especially since Microsoft defined precise requirements for AI-oriented PCs, paving the way for broader adoption of ARM architecture within the Windows environment.
Competitors such as Apple and Qualcomm have established a strong presence in the market, and Samsung’s decision to re-enter the game coincides with a phase of reorganizing manufacturers’ preferences.
Until now, the System LSI division had focused primarily on Exynos processors dedicated to smartphones, making this development a significant diversification of its product offering.
