Galaxy Z Flip 8 could be the last: the end of an era?

On July 22 in London Samsung will hold its summer Unpacked, a highly anticipated event that will spotlight the brand’s new line of foldables. Among them, the indispensable Galaxy Z Flip 8, even though there are signs of trouble for the brand’s future Flip devices.

According to increasingly insistent rumors, the new model could be the last and mark the end of an era for the Asian giant’s clamshell foldables. But will it really be so?

The latest rumors come from insider Ice Universe, usually very reliable and always passionate about Samsung-branded products. According to the leaker, there is a possibility that the flip phone series could conclude with the Galaxy Z Flip 8 — arriving in a few weeks.

The reasons behind this choice could be multiple: on one hand, the rise in component prices (we are still in the midst of the memory crisis) has certainly played a major role. According to recent leaks, the Z Flip 8 should debut from €1,299 – with a slight increase over its predecessor.

Things cannot get better in the coming months, and imagining a future Z Flip 9 at an even higher price seems absurd. Colleagues at Android Authority speculate that Samsung could simply skip a generation and wait for an improvement in the situation; a plausible theory, but it remains to be seen how things will evolve.

In reality there is also another detail that could weigh on the possible end of the Z Flip lineup: with the debut of Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung would greenlight the wide format. The next foldable will be more compact when closed and resemble a traditional tablet when opened; if the new format proves to be a success, the Asian giant could lean toward betting everything on the latter.

Anyway, for now, we are still dealing with rumors, gossip, and hypotheses. It should be noted that this is not the first time that talk of the end of the Z Flip series has surfaced, but at the moment there are still no concrete details. In the meantime, all eyes are on the event of July 22, with the debut of foldables and the new wearables Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2.
