Honor X80 Pro Max is the first in the world with 10,000 nits, but there’s a catch

After days of rumors, the confirmation has finally arrived: Honor is really about to launch a smartphone equipped with a display of 10,000 nits of brightness. A real beast, and this won’t be the only highlight since there are rumors of a Battery Phone with all the bells and whistles. Let’s discover the first details of this device, together with the presentation date — announced by the company itself.

The launch of the Honor X80 Pro Max is set for June 22 in China and it is likely to remain exclusive to its homeland. Usually the Italian X series is characterized by budget phones, while in the Asian market the line is rich with solutions for multiple price ranges. A rebrand could be chosen but for now there are no hints about it.

As the title says, it is the world’s first smartphone with a peak brightness of 10,000 nits: certainly a remarkable milestone, but it’s worth keeping in mind the considerations we’ve already discussed previously. Such a value is mainly a marketing ploy since achieving that peak occurs almost exclusively during HDR content playback.

Moreover, it concerns only a small portion of the screen and not the entirety of the display. What should be considered at the launch of the Honor X80 Pro Max is the brightness HBM, that is the maximum peak reachable from inside the panel.

Moving on to the specifications, Honor has limited itself to confirming the presence of the 10.000 nit screen, a 1.5K resolution unit (2,788 x 1,280 pixels), a refresh rate of 120 Hz and slim bezels of 1.3 mm. The display should measure 6.8″ diagonally, with a central punch-hole to host an 8 MP selfie camera.

The design has been confirmed by the official images: on the back there is a large camera module with a 50 MP sensor equipped with optical image stabilization.

Under the hood there would be the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 SoC, a mid-range solution introduced by Qualcomm in May. There would be neither an in-display fingerprint reader nor the IP69K rating against dust and water.

Besides having insane brightness, there would also be a massive battery: rumors speak of an 11,000 mAh beast, but thanks to the use of silicon-carbon technology the whole thing would fit in a thickness of only 8.08 mm (weighing 203 grams).
