Change of name for the upcoming mid-range devices under Xiaomi’s sub-brand, or perhaps it’s better to talk about a change of numbering. After the current series there will be no Redmi Note 16: a certification reveals it, finally showing the existence of Redmi Note 17. In this way, even the iconic line aligns numerically with the company’s flagships from Lei Jun.
Redmi Note 17 certified: the mid-range series aligns with the flagships (and now it’s official)

The confirmation comes thanks to the GSMA certification: recently new devices were registered with the codes 26012RN62L, 26012RN62Y and 26012RN62A, but with one addition. Now the commercial name of the product has also been reported, which definitively confirms its identity.
All model numbers refer to Redmi Note 17, specifically variants destined for certain Global markets and Latin America. Technical details and other information are missing, but the generational leap is confirmed.
With the debut of the Xiaomi 17 series, the Chinese company has skipped the 16 range to align numerically with its rival, the iPhone 17. Now, with this latest move, the brand aims to standardize the numbering of its most important products: the Xiaomi 17 line is destined for the premium tier, while the Redmi Note 17 family will occupy the entire mid-range.
Furthermore, the appearance of Global models in the GSMA database could indicate a fairly near international debut. The China launch is expected for the summer (targeting August), while it’s still to be seen how long we will have to wait for the global models. Meanwhile, rumors swirl and paint an absurd picture with the addition of the supposed Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, a 10,000 mAh beast that will also arrive in the Global version (albeit with a slight compromise).
