Huawei at work on a new tri-fold, Mate XT 2 will be more “fashionable”

After inaugurating the tri-fold device segment with the Mate XT Ultimate Design and consolidating the offer with the subsequent update Mate XTs, Huawei is preparing to respond to Samsung’s move, recently stepping onto the scene with its Galaxy Z TriFold.

Major manufacturers now seem set to look beyond the traditional folding format, and current rumors indicate that the Chinese company is already developing its third iteration, temporarily identified as Mate XT 2, with a launch planned well before the end of 2026.

According to the first information that emerged, the true distinction of the next model will lie in a major redesign. The brand seems intent on introducing substantial changes to the exterior appearance of the device, making it more oriented toward elegance.

Although precise details about the lines are still under wraps, sources talk about a device designed to be a true object of style. It is reasonable to expect the introduction of new finishes and new color variants, designed to surpass the already notable visual impact of previous generations.

Further confirmations on the structural choices could surface during the summer.

On the purely technical front, the new tri-fold is expected to be equipped with the processor Kirin 9050 Pro. This SoC, while showing a certain gap in synthetic benchmarks compared to Qualcomm counterparts, still guarantees a daily usage experience free of uncertainties.

In performing normal operations and multitasking of the large display, devices using this chip remain responsive, offering the end user performances adequate to a high-end device, without showing annoying slowdowns.

The Autumn Strategy

The launch window for the Mate XT 2 is strategically set between September and October. This placement is aimed at directly countering the arrival of Apple’s new smartphone lineup.

In particular, Chinese brands will have to face the highly anticipated debut of the iPhone Fold, also known as the iPhone Ultra, defending their shares in the domestic market with strongly innovative proposals.

To maintain a clear competitive edge, the Shenzhen-based company could also take inspiration from the forthcoming moves of its South Korean rivals. Rumors about the future Galaxy Z TriFold 2 indicate the inclusion of an S Pen integrated directly into the chassis.

It is not excluded, then, that Huawei might also decide to follow the same path, equipping its imminent tri-fold with a dedicated stylus, turning the generous screen into a true tool for advanced productivity.
