Few things are certain in life and one of them is certainly the summer debut of Samsung’s folding flagship devices. Each year we look forward to the latest generation of Z Fold and Z Flip: the pair of flagships represents the two faces of the same coin.
Things could end up starting next year, according to an Asian insider: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 9 would have been canceled, or rather not in development by the giant. But will it really be like this? Let us try to clarify this thorny issue.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 9 would have been canceled, according to the latest rumors: let’s try to clarify

The news has been circulating for a few hours and is being taken with extreme caution: a Weibo leaker (Chinese social network in the style of X/Twitter) claims that Galaxy Z Flip 9 will never see the light of day. Usually the development of Samsung foldables occurs well in advance and this is the reason why we often encounter rumors long before the debut – true for unfounded rumors as well as leaks that ultimately turn out to be true.
Precisely, the South Korean company would start development at least a year in advance: in this case from the supply chain not a single rumor would have arrived, not even a minuscule detail about the future Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 9.
Additionally there would be two other reasons: the rising production costs (primarily due to the memory crisis) and the lack of margins for improvement in the device design. The clamshell folding format would be difficult to improve in terms of design and innovation.
This latter aspect could be linked to rumors about the debut of Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide – which will introduce a design different from the usual for the series. The first Galaxy in wide format is seen as a bridge between the two usual brand foldables, combining ample space for multitasking (Fold) in a body that is more manageable and comfortable to use (Flip).
Objectively, we agree with Android Headlines colleagues: the lack of leaks about a product is by no means a confirmation of its cancellation. Furthermore the real parameter should be something else: the Galaxy Z Flip series is a success and the sales of the latest flip phone do not seem to suggest a crisis, at least according to data available online.
So let us enjoy the launch of the new Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide – arriving in July, according to leaks so far – and sleep soundly knowing there will be a new generation next year. Clearly we are always open to dramatic plot twists, but as of writing there don’t seem to be any concerns on the horizon.
