OPPO Reno X as a Small Tablet: The Wide Prototype That Reminds of Huawei Pura X

The new Reno 16 lineup will arrive in China during May and is also planned globally. While we wait to learn more, the Chinese insider Digital Chat Station stunned everyone by revealing a possible new development for the series.

The mysterious prototype OPPO Reno X is a phone unlike any other, a sort of hybrid between a traditional smartphone and a foldable, but not part of the foldable category. And looking at its form factor, it’s impossible not to recall a certain Huawei-branded model.

OPPO Reno X will be the wide smartphone that will challenge foldables (without being one)

Recently the trend of wide smartphones has been making its way in the mobile sector: not surprisingly, Samsung is expected to introduce its Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide during the summer Unpacked event, while Cupertino could even launch iPhone Fold (or Ultra) with this format. Wide devices feature a display aspect ratio different from traditional phones, with a final effect more similar to a tablet.

In the case of OPPO Reno X, it’s described as a 16:10 device but with compact dimensions, given a 6.39″ diagonal display. Normally smartphones have a slim and elongated design, while in this case the appearance is more chunky.

However, it is a style that allows for a larger surface, useful for productivity, gaming and multimedia content in general. It’s hard not to notice a resemblance to Huawei Pura X (unfolded), which aims to offer a similar experience.

The phone becomes a sort of small tablet, but without bulky dimensions. According to the leaker, the OPPO device would be powered by a top-tier chipset from the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 series, powered by a battery of around 7,000 mAh.

Despite the “experimental” format, it would not lack a respectable camera setup, with a triple-sensor arrangement where the main sensor is 50 MP, accompanied by a telephoto periscope lens and, presumably, by an ultra-wide.

Regarding the debut, the leaker claims that OPPO Reno X will arrive alongside the next flagship series. Therefore the release would be scheduled for October, together with the new OPPO Find X10.
