Just a few hours after the first sighting, here come Redmi R70 and R70m 5G: Xiaomi launched the new budget phones as a surprise (in China) simply by uploading them to the official site. The portal offers a comprehensive overview with images, technical specifications and price, along with the negligible differences between the two models.

As highlighted a little above, Xiaomi limited itself to making the two low-cost devices available without an announcement: the phones can be safely purchased in the Chinese e-commerce, where all the details are also present. Redmi R90 and R90m 5G are two budget devices oriented to the new connectivity standard, with basic specs and a particular focus on price.
The only differences concern the batteries (respectively from 6,000 mAh and 6,300 mAh) and the memory configurations. The base model starts from 4/128 GB while the “m” version starts from 6/128 GB and also offers a maximum configuration of 12/256 GB (absent for R90). Both feature support for 15W charging, and thanks to reverse charging they can be used as power banks.
The display is a 6.9-inch LCD unit with HD resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, while powering it all is the budget Unisoc T8300 chipset. The camera setup is based on a 13 MP sensor accompanied by an unspecified secondary sensor; on the front, inside a teardrop notch, there is an 8 MP selfie camera. The software is based on Android 16 with the latest version of Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3.
As noted before, technically (not aesthetically), the two Redmi devices appear to be rebrands of POCO C85x with a downgraded camera (the POCO model offers a 32 MP main sensor). Redmi R70 5G starts from 1,599 yuan, about 199€ at the exchange rate, while R70m 5G debuts from a base of 1,799 yuan (around 223€).
