Travel should be a moment of discovery or relaxation, but for many people it becomes an unpleasant experience due to motion sickness, known as car sickness, seasickness, or airsickness. Samsung recently launched a new Android application called Hearapy, which promises to temporarily solve this bothersome issue through targeted use of audio technology.
How Hearapy works, Samsung’s new app to combat motion sickness
The initiative draws inspiration from a scientific study conducted at Nagoya University in Japan, and represents an innovative approach that uses smartphone software to improve physical well-being during travel.
The operation of Hearapy is based on a solid scientific explanation related to the causes of nausea during travel. Motion sickness occurs due to a sensory conflict: when we are inside a vehicle, our eyes perceive the movement of external objects, but the inner ear and the rest of the body signal to the brain that we are stationary.
The Hearapy application interv ines by producing a precise sinusoidal wave at 100 Hz, designed to stimulate the inner ear’s balance system and align the signals sent to the brain. According to researchers, listening to this frequency at a volume between 75 and 85 decibels for a few minutes can significantly alleviate the symptoms by improving balance.
From a practical standpoint, using the app is extremely simple and straightforward. A single listening session of about one minute can provide up to two hours of relief from motion sickness, allowing the user to repeat the process as needed during the journey.
Although Samsung promotes integration with its own Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, the software is flexible: tests indicate that the application works correctly with any type of earphone or headset capable of reproducing 100 Hz tones. Therefore, even using third-party devices, effectiveness remains unchanged, despite system messages suggesting the use of Galaxy products for optimal low-frequency performance.
The interface also includes a dedicated feature to manage playback duration, allowing customization based on the intensity of the disturbance.
