The high-end smartphone market is preparing for a change in launch timings for 2026, driven by increasingly fierce competition. Qualcomm has already shifted its flagship’s release window — to September — and now it seems that the main rival will follow the same path. The Dimensity 9600 is expected to arrive earlier than usual, with OPPO and vivo leading the debut of the chipset.
The flagship smartphones of 2026 will arrive earlier than usual: this year it’s OPPO and vivo’s turn

According to the latest rumors, MediaTek has decided to bring forward the debut of its flagship processor, the Dimensity 9600, positioning it strategically in the month of September. This decision directly responds to the pace set by Qualcomm, which with the announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 at the beginning of September last year allowed Xiaomi to dominate the scene with the 17 series in the same month.
The success of that strategy was evident in the Chinese market, where the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max models have surpassed one million units sold each, exceeding the initial performance of Apple’s new iPhones. OPPO and vivo, which plan to launch Ultra versions of the current Find X9 X300 in April, do not intend to be caught unprepared for the next generation.
Thanks to the earlier debut of the Dimensity series, at least one of these two brands could unveil its new flagship as early as September, entering direct competition with the usual launch window of Apple’s smartphones and the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series.
Being ready in the same month as Apple and Xiaomi means being able to offer consumers competitive alternatives at the moment of peak media attention, an opportunity that the new MediaTek chipset should make possible starting this year.
