The global smartphone market in 2026 faces a complex challenge due to the surge in component costs, a dynamic that is pushing leading manufacturers to drastically rethink their strategies.
In this context of uncertainty, Samsung would have embarked on an unprecedented path for its upcoming mid-range model, Galaxy A57. To prevent memory price hikes from translating into a higher final price, the company would have decided to adopt OLED panels from Chinese production.
Samsung Galaxy A57 may not suffer price hikes from memory crisis, thanks to Chinese displays
The need mainly stems from the rising production costs of memory chips, a phenomenon that affects even a giant like Samsung, despite being among the world’s largest producers of such components.
To offset higher expenses and keep the Galaxy A57 price in line with the previous Galaxy A56, Samsung would turn to CSOT, a Chinese display manufacturer offering OLED solutions at markedly lower costs than Samsung Display’s in-house division.
This would allow balancing the production budget without sacrificing the premium screen features, which according to rumors will remain a 6.67-inch panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate.
Beyond cost management, the Galaxy A57’s mission would also be political and commercial: to reclaim the throne as the world’s leading smartphone producer, currently in Apple’s hands. In emerging markets such as India, Southeast Asia and Latin America, Samsung faced last year a decline due to the aggressive competition from Chinese brands like Xiaomi and OPPO, as well as the launch of the low-cost iPhone 16e.
In strategic markets like Vietnam, Samsung’s share fell from 31% to 28% in a single year, to the advantage of rivals who bet everything on accessibility. Keeping prices stable thanks to CSOT panels, the Korean brand would aim to create a barrier against the advance of Chinese brands, which in turn are not immune to price hikes and have already started to raise prices.
What to expect from Samsung’s next mid-range
From a technical standpoint, the Galaxy A57 is shaping up to be a solid and balanced device despite production cost optimizations. The leaked specifications indicate the presence of an Exynos 1680 processor, RAM options up to 12 GB and storage up to 256 GB.
The camera system does not compromise on quality, offering a 50 MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, paired with a 12 MP ultra-wide and a 12 MP front camera. To conclude, there would be a 5,000 mAh battery and support for 45W fast charging.
