2026 will be the year of smart glasses: Samsung confirms

Following the initial experiments focused on headsets, the tech giants – in this case we refer to Apple and Samsung – would already be almost ready to launch their respective smart glasses. While the Cupertino side remains silent, Samsung has officially confirmed the arrival of this novelty: its Galaxy Glasses (the name is not yet certain) will debut during 2026, and now it’s a certainty.

The Asian company revealed its intentions during the recent financial results conference. Seong Cho, Executive VP of Samsung’s Mobile Experience division, confirmed that in 2026 new multimodal artificial intelligence experiences will arrive on several formats, including new-generation AR glasses.

The first Samsung smart glasses should be based on the Android XR platform, aiming at augmented or mixed reality. This is a natural evolution of the path the brand has taken with the headset Samsung Galaxy XR: a first important step, but moving toward the Galaxy Glasses – which should be the real revolution.

At the moment we know that two models are in the works, coded SM-O200P and SM-O200J: initially regional variants were thought, but in reality they would be two distinct devices. Anyway for now it is still all very hazy: according to various rumors the first Samsung smart glasses might not include an AR display.

This feature is expected to be included in the second generation, due in 2027. In this phase it’s better to take any information with caution: as emerged also from the patents, the Galaxy Glasses are in the works, so it’s likely we’ll have to wait a while before concrete details emerge. In the meantime there are also rumors about Apple’s glasses, perhaps arriving alongside the iPhone 18 series.
