It could be a golden year for Apple: the American manufacturer has achieved a historic milestone in 2025 and now things should become even more exciting. After years of watching Samsung, the first iPhone Fold would finally be within reach.
However, Cupertino’s ambitions would extend well beyond the book-like form factor: Apple’s plans reportedly include the alleged iPhone Flip, a foldable clamshell coming to challenge Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip dominance.
iPhone Flip could arrive after the Fold model: Apple could have serious intentions for the foldables market
For the release of the unannounced iPhone Fold we must wait: according to various rumors the launch is expected in September, alongside the flagship iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This should be the year of Apple’s strategic shift, with flagship in autumn while for iPhone 18 base and the 18e variant will skip directly to spring 2027.
This time it will be an all-out war against Samsung: so far the Asian giant has dominated international rankings of foldable smartphones with its models, but now a very dangerous rival is coming. Not surprisingly, the existence of Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold, a foldable device with a format different from the usual (for the series) and closer to Cupertino’s foldable.
While things look set for controversy, a Bloomberg report says Apple won’t stop: the U.S. company is reportedly evaluating a possible iPhone Flip, a device featuring a foldable shell display.
Rumors are cautious and at the moment the smartphone is not yet certain: probably the company intends to wait and study the Fold model’s impact on the market. Still, in general Apple would be inclined to create new foldable formats: for years iPhones have been offered in various sizes, because demand is high for both Pro Max models and the more compact ones.
Note that this is not the first time people have talked about the iPhone Flip: while Bloomberg is cautious, previous rumors confirm its existence — including a possible release in 2028 (so there will be quite a wait).
