The presentation of the new flagship models is approaching and it seems that almost everything has been said. Nevertheless, there are still small details emerging and this time at the center of the leaks is the selfie camera of Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. The flagship will have, from its side, a new sensor (after a good three years), but perhaps it’s better not to get carried away with the enthusiasm.
New selfie camera for Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: sensor changes but zero differences
After three generations of faithful service, the Samsung S5K3LU sensor is due for retirement. According to the latest rumors — coming from the Chinese insider Ice Universe — the now imminent Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra will have a brand new selfie camera.
The 12 MP S5K3LU solution has been in use since the Galaxy S23: it’s a sensor with 1/3.2-inch size, 1.12 µm pixels, and f/2.2 aperture. With the new Ultra model, a Sony sensor not yet specified is expected to debut, but it’s wise to curb the celebrations.
Anyone hoping for a revolution will be disappointed as the specs would remain unchanged in every respect. In short, there would be a change but without any new features for the specs: certainly a move in line with the brand’s conservative approach.
Jokes aside, the selfie camera should offer a wider field of view of 85° and for this it would have a slightly larger hole than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However it will be possible to take group selfies more conveniently. The launch event for the new Galaxy is set for February 25: just a few days left and we will be able to discover all official details.
