Is Pro too expensive? ChatGPT Pro Lite arrives, a top-tier subscription but more affordable

A new subscription for OpenAI’s service is on the way, called ChatGPT Pro Lite: a premium plan but cheaper than the current flagship solution. This is what emerged from the code of the web app of the famous chatbot, which revealed both the name of the new service and the possible price in dollars.

As of writing, the best-known chatbot is available in several plans, but OpenAI has not yet revealed the existence of this new offering.

  • Free – with limited access and free of charge
  • Go – from $8 per month and a higher number of messages, images and so on
  • Plus – from $20 per month and many additional features
  • Pro – from $200 per month, the most substantial and complete subscription

In addition, there is also a business plan, designed specifically for professional use. The new subscription should sit slightly above the top tier, between Plus and Pro. ChatGPT Pro Lite would be offered at a price of $100 per month, at least according to what has emerged so far.

The introduction of this alternative could be a wise decision, especially given the criticisms directed at the current system. The jump from Plus to Pro is definitely out of scale, with a rather steep price increase. The arrival of a Pro Lite subscription could bridge this gap and satisfy users who are looking for a premium service, but without going over the top.

Likely, even in Pro Lite version, Codex access will be provided, with a higher number of benefits than Plus users. It should also offer a chatbot usage level from three to five times higher, perhaps with some other additions.

As we await confirmations from OpenAI, note that this period is not exactly rosy for the company. Competition has become increasingly fierce, and both Gemini and Claude are top-tier rivals; furthermore, AI expenses would amount to a true black hole, pushing toward further forms of monetization – such as the recent introduction of advertising in ChatGPT.
