2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for the foldable smartphone market. foldable smartphones. Apple seems ready to make its long-awaited debut in this highly competitive sector, pushing other manufacturers to accelerate innovation.
In response to this challenge, Samsung is preparing to launch a full range of devices by mid-year. Rumors point to three main models: the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the standard edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a brand-new, wider variant of the latter.
This very “wide” version is precisely attracting attention lately, thanks to technical specs that promise to surpass the base edition on multiple fronts.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide: a step forward for battery life

According to the latest leaks from the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, the variant “wide” of the next Samsung foldable could count on a larger energy module.
We are talking about a 4,800 mAh battery, achieved through the use of two separate cells, respectively 2,267 mAh and 2,293 mAh, for a combined nominal capacity of 4,660 mAh (which would then be rounded to 4,800 mAh as the declared capacity).
If this information proves correct, we would be looking at a small improvement over the 4,400 mAh seen previously on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The “wide” version will offer greater autonomy than both past models and the upcoming standard variant, sitting just one notch below the Galaxy Z TriFold’s specifications.
Display at the service of entertainment
The advantages of the new edition won’t be limited to battery life alone. The device should feature a 7.6-inch foldable inner display.
Although it appears slightly more compact in terms of overall diagonal than its predecessor, the real strength will lie in the aspect ratio. A wider width translates into a noticeably superior visual experience for consuming multimedia content and for using tablet-designed apps, ensuring more comfortable multitasking.
Furthermore, to counter Apple’s arrival, the Asian company reportedly intends to finally eliminate the bothersome central crease on both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its “wide” counterpart.
Under the hood, the device will target top performance relying on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor.
The photography sector should also mirror that of the standard version. Rumors suggest the presence of a 200 MP main sensor, accompanied by a 50 MP ultrawide camera and a 10 MP telephoto lens.
