Last update: March 18 – In a previous focus I talked to you about how many updates Android will receive on your smartphone or tablet Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO, while this time we focus on security patches. Just like major Android updates, the security updates released by Google are as important if not more so, because in some cases they can make the difference in safeguarding the device and your data.
Never before have our phones and tablets stored such sensitive data, so it is essential that your device be updated for as long as possible.
POCO X8 Pro series added.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO: security updates guaranteed for smartphones and tablets
Before continuing, a few relevant preambles are necessary. First of all, the smartphones and tablets listed below are updated on a cadence guaranteed by the company, i.e. every 90 days, even if it may happen that in some cases updates arrive earlier than planned.
It is a very useful list to understand how long your Xiaomi smartphone or tablet will receive monthly security patches, however it is incomplete because it includes exclusively the devices that have received the Android Enterprise Recommended certification; this consequently excludes all models sold exclusively in China.
In the list in question there are both high-end, mid-range and low-end products, and obviously the more expensive ones are also those that are generally supported longer. In the column “End date” you will find the month in which the last security update will be released, after which the release of security patches will no longer be guaranteed.

The Xiaomi update policy, updated January 2026
The Xiaomi update policy (both Android and security) has been progressively improving, to the relief of Mi Fans. Below you will find the general policy, usually valid for all models – flagship, mid-range and entry-level – followed by some exceptions.
When the exceptions become the norm, we will update the general terms of Xiaomi’s policy.
- Flagship: 4 or 5 years of Android updates + 6 years of security patches
- Mid-range: 4 years of Android updates + 6 years of security patches
- Entry level: variable
