vivo V80 on the way to debut: Zeiss cameras, 10X zoom portraits and 4K video

In various Asian countries the public already knows the V80 Lite, the more affordable version of vivo’s new V series, which has also arrived in Malaysia with a 10,000 mAh battery. The flagship model of the lineup, vivo V80, would now be close to debut (at least for the Indian market).

According to the latest rumors, the launch is expected in the first week of October, although the brand has not yet officially confirmed the phone’s launch. In the meantime, the specifications leaked so far revolve almost entirely around photography and video, starting with a zoom in Portrait mode that the V series had never offered before.

vivo V80: what we know about the new smartphone in the V series

On the back, the V80 would mount a triple camera system in collaboration with Zeiss: a 50 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide, and a 50 MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. This very telephoto lens would be the basis of the most significant novelty in the camera department.

For the first time on a V-series model, vivo would introduce a Zoom in Portrait mode up to 10X, designed to bring distant subjects closer without losing the characteristic portrait rendering. On the front, a 50 MP selfie camera with autofocus.

The smartphone should introduce a cinematic 4K video mode, capable of blurring the background during recording for an effect more similar to that of a professional camera. The mode would include three predefined styles, Modern Movie, Vibrant and Pastel, each with a different color rendering.

Display, chipset and battery

On the hardware front, the V80 should keep the same Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 already seen on the V70, thus aiming for differentiation mainly in camera and battery life. The display would be an AMOLED panel of 6.59″ with a 1.5K resolution, flat surface and a 144 Hz refresh rate.

The battery would rise to 7,200 mAh, up from 6,500 mAh on the V70, while fast charging would remain at 90W. The chassis would be made of aluminum alloy, with IP68 and IP69 certifications against water and dust, and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader.

Price and global release

The debut of the vivo V80 is expected in the first week of October, at least for India. In terms of price, the device would be positioned above 60,000 Indian rupees (about €545).

At the moment it is not clear if and when it will also arrive in Europe: anyway the current vivo V70 was announced in Italy in April, so there are good chances for the successor as well.
