Samsung launches the new affordable Galaxy Book 6: the challenge to the MacBook Neo begins

Samsung expands the laptop lineup with a more affordable model: this is a new version of Galaxy Book 6 14″, the entry-level chapter of the lineup that already includes Galaxy Book 6 Ultra, Galaxy Book 6 Pro and Galaxy Book 6 Edge.

With a starting price of 799.99 dollars, a savings of 450 dollars compared to the previous model, the device aims to directly compete with Apple MacBook Neo, Apple’s budget-friendly notebook.

The 61.2 Wh battery provides, according to Samsung, up to 25 hours of battery life, with fast charging at 45W USB-C (0% to 33% in 30 minutes). In terms of connectivity, the device offers 2 USB-C ports, 1 USB-A, an HDMI 1.4, a 3.5 mm jack, Wi‑Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.

Rounding out the package are a 2 MP webcam with 1080p video, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and Windows 11 Home or Pro.

Galaxy AI features on board

Despite its budget positioning, the 14″ Galaxy Book 6 includes several Galaxy AI features: AI Select for content selection with instant information access, AI Cut Out for automatic background removal from images, and Note Assist for summarizing notes and key points.

Joining these are Samsung ecosystem features such as Quick Share, Storage Share, Multi Control and Second Screen, which lets you use a Galaxy Tab as an external display.

Budget Galaxy Book 6 vs Apple MacBook Neo

The new base version of the 14″ Galaxy Book 6 aims to compete with Apple MacBook Neo, which starts at $699 (799€ in Italy).

On the hardware side, however, the Samsung notebook would offer some advantages: up to 16 GB of RAM versus 8 GB on the Apple model, and four physical ports (2 USB-C, 1 USB-A, 1 HDMI) versus the two USB-C plus 3.5 mm jack of the MacBook Neo. Apple, however, maintains the advantage in terms of the NPU, with 35 TOPS declared versus the 15 TOPS of the Intel NPU mounted on the Galaxy Book 6.

Price and availability

The 14″ Galaxy Book 6 starts from $799.99 and is already available for purchase on Samsung’s store and Amazon in the United States, with deliveries expected by early October. At the moment, the official press release does not specify timelines for expansion to other markets, including Italy – so we have to wait for any news.
