Redmi Buds 8S are official: improved noise cancellation at a budget price

Hi-Res Wireless Gold certification, LHDC 5.0 codec, and an improved noise cancellation by 70% compared to the previous generation: these are the features with which Redmi Buds 8S debut in China, offering a package that’s rarely found at such an affordable price.

The new earbuds make their debut on the same day as Xiaomi 18 Pro/Pro Max and Xiaomi Watch S5 41 mm: despite the big names, there’s room for a low-budget novelty as well.

Redmi Buds 8S: Audio, Noise Cancellation and Battery Life

The Redmi Buds 8S adopt a semi in-ear design aimed at prolonged comfort: each earbud weighs just 4.2 grams, with an ergonomic structure. The charging case offers a classic vertical shape, made more compact thanks to internal component optimization, and incorporates a light slot LED, designed to show at a glance the battery status.

The audio heart is an 11 mm dynamic unit with a multilayer membrane and a high-rigidity dome, paired with support for the LHDC 5.0 codec and the Hi-Res Wireless Gold certification.

On the customization front, there are 5 built-in EQ presets, a 10-band configurable equalizer, and the Sound ID feature for a personalized listening profile.

Redmi reports an overall 70% improvement in noise cancellation compared to the previous generation, spread across two intensity levels designed for different contexts: the deep mode aims to reduce low-frequency rumble from airplanes and subways, while the balanced mode is calibrated to isolate noises such as keyboard tapping in an office or library.

The system also adjusts the cancellation based on the ear canal shape and it can be used with a single earbud.

For calls, a three-microphone system with Xiaomi’s AI-powered proprietary algorithm filters background noise.

The earbuds offer up to 7.5 hours of continuous playback per earbud, totaling 40 hours overall when including the charging case; just 10 minutes of fast charging are enough to gain about 2 more hours of listening.

Completing the specs are IP54 dust and water splash protection, a Find My Earbuds feature, and integration with the Xiao AI voice assistant via the Xiaomi HyperConnect ecosystem, which also allows quick pairing simply by opening the case near a Xiaomi smartphone.

The dual and simultaneous connection to a smartphone and tablet automatically switches between devices: if a call comes in while you are listening to audio from the tablet, the earbuds will automatically move to the smartphone, then return to the tablet once the call ends.

The new Redmi Buds 8S are available in China in Dusk Black, Cream White and Moss Green, priced at 229 yuan (about €30). At present there is no confirmed availability for Global markets or Italy. Here in our market we have both Redmi Buds 8 and Buds 8 Active arriving, so there are good chances for this addition as well.
