Huawei has introduced to the market a new generation of wearables, focusing updates on refining biometric data capture and expanding monitoring for outdoor activity.
After trying the Watch GT 7 Pro, which mainly stands out for its use of more premium materials, I had the opportunity to use for a few weeks the Huawei Watch GT 7 in 46 mm.
It is a minor update compared to the previous generation, the Huawei Watch GT 6, but in my opinion it is the best product of the new series in terms of quality/price ratio, especially taking advantage of the exclusive discount coupon that the company has made available to our readers.
The Huawei Watch GT 7 measures 46 x 46 x 10.95 mm, weighing on the scale 51.3 g, clearly excluding the strap.
The case combines a stainless steel architecture used for the case and the upper bezel, paired with a back panel molded in reinforced fiber-reinforced composite.
The front is protected by a panel of aluminosilicate and lithium glass, inserted inside a design that preserves the octagonal profiles characteristic of the series.
The watch is available in multiple colorways: the Blue variant features a silver case, while the Yellow and Black models adopt a dark design.
The fastening to the wrist relies on a fluoroelastomer strap that implements a patented mechanism named EasyCross. This solution was developed to slide the excess end of the strap beneath the metal buckle, limiting protrusions to prevent accidental snagging with technical clothing or equipment during gym sessions.
The dial is displayed on a circular AMOLED panel of 1.47 inches capable of rendering a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels, yielding a visual density of 317 PPI. The peak brightness, measured at a 30% APL level, reaches 3,000 nits.
The display supports activation of the Always-On Display (AOD) and automatically adjusts the backlight using an ambient light sensor hidden under the dial.
For system navigation, in addition to the touchscreen, there is on the right side a rotary crown with a motor for haptic feedback, paired with a physical button just below it. The latter is pre-set to activate training screens but is customizable.
Huawei Watch GT 7 is IP69 against water jets and dust, and can withstand immersion up to 5 ATM or 50 meters of static pressure, making the device suitable for swimming but not for deep dives.

Huawei Watch GT 7, like the Pro model, can recognize and record over 110 sports different. This year the company has focused primarily on improving the data readouts and metrics for cycling and mountain sports.
Data processing in cycling goes beyond simple timing, providing the cyclist with dynamic elevation estimates generated via pre-loaded route data.
The system shows vibration and on-display alerts when approach of tight-radius curves, and analyzes climbs by isolating slope segments to calculate the progressive altitude gain and exertion.
The running module processes complex metrics without external pods. The sensor computes the balance of ground contact time between the right and left lower limb, measures the vertical oscillation of the body’s center of mass, and quantifies running power in Watts.
In off-road disciplines, the app supports offline map rendering and enables a dedicated trail running mode that modulates pace indications by compensating altitude changes.
The algorithm for winter sports simultaneously monitors downhill skiing and snowboarding, functioning on natural slopes as well as indoor facilities. The internal processor quantifies G-forces, angular velocity, directional frequency, and the curvature radius of trajectories.
The preloaded cartographic archive contains navigable maps of over 3,000 ski resorts located in 59 countries, incorporating filters designed to pause the stopwatch automatically during breaks or passive transport on gondolas and chairlifts.
From a physiological standpoint, the passive analysis involves continuous measurement of heart rate and the estimation of blood oxygen saturation (SpO2).
Heart rate variability (HRV) is sampled to calculate allostatic load parameters and compile the Physical Readiness Index. This indicator summarizes data drawn from the sleep cycle, the metabolic impact of past efforts, and autonomic nervous system responses, splitting the recovery status on a five-level scale.
The quality of sleep is evaluated by the TruSleep 5.0 software, which divides the night into intervals of light sleep, deep sleep (N3) and REM activity, cross-referencing movement data with breathing rate changes to diagnose fragmentation or abnormal rest patterns. A textual summary, the Morning Brief, is generated 5 to 10 minutes after actual waking.
The software also includes the option to enable mini-workouts: sequences of 30 contractions and extensions illustrated by on-screen animations (including a panda), with a variant that rewrites the exercises excluding the lower segments to accommodate wheelchair users.
As the only notable difference compared to the Pro model, the Huawei Watch GT 7 does not include a dedicated sensor for acquiring electrocardiogram (ECG).
The 46 mm Huawei Watch GT 7 houses a battery of 867 mAh. Company tests indicate a range up to 21 days in conservative usage scenarios, without constant satellite tracking. With a mixed and more typical use, the autonomy settles in a range between 12 and 14 days.
This profile includes turning the display on 200 times per day (or 30 minutes of total display activation), continuous heart-rate tracking, sleep recording, a weekly balance of 180 minutes of active GPS navigation during sport, 30 minutes of Bluetooth audio, 30 minutes of calls and daily synchronization of 50 text messages, 6 call reminders and 3 alarms.
Enabling the Always-On Display (AOD) reduces autonomy to a maximum of 7 days. An extreme trail-running usage, which requires continuous cross-referencing of coordinates with altitude data, depletes the entire cell capacity in exactly 51 hours.
Charging happens via a magnetic wireless base that fully charges the cell from zero in a window that ranges between 45 and 80 minutes, depending on the ambient temperature. The most interesting part, however, is that only 15 minutes of charging are enough to sustain background monitoring for about another 48 hours.
Again, a reminder that Huawei previously supplied the base with a removable USB cable, which no longer happens. If the included cable is too long, too short, or simply breaks, you will have to re-purchase the entire base.
On board the new Huawei GT 7 we find a refined version of HarmonyOS 6.1, which brings with it a few small but welcome refinements.
The true ace up the device’s sleeve, however, remains its universal nature. Unlike some competitors that tend to lock their users, this smartwatch communicates perfectly not only with the proprietary ecosystem, but offers full compatibility with both Android and iOS.
It is an approach that rewards freedom of choice, allowing you to switch smartphones without worrying about making the watch obsolete.
The nerve center of the entire experience is the Huawei Health app. It is here that lies the true command room of the wearable: the app securely stores biometric parameters and allows managing every single setting in great depth.
Sure, being able to funnel all these measurements into more universal hubs like Apple Health or Google Health Connect would be the cherry on top for those who use multiple fitness apps, but given the Chinese brand’s dynamic commercial considerations, this closure is a predictable trade-off.

Huawei has done a masterful job especially on the side-scrolling cards interface: despite being literally packed with charts and metrics, the company has managed to maintain a clean, tidy, and highly customizable layout, without ever sacrificing immediate readability.
There are, however, some trade-offs to accept on the ecosystem front. The store of third-party apps is functional for basic needs, but it proves to be rather limited. If you’re looking for specific software, such as an app to control home automation, you could be left empty-handed.

The Watch GT 7 is not presented as a completely new product, but as a calculated iterative refinement. The drawbacks related to the fragmented ecosystem of third-party apps and the absence of a persistent cellular data module persist, but are largely balanced by the completeness of the proprietary software and the very high quality/price ratio offered both in terms of design and sensor technology.
It is not recommended for those who already own a model from the previous generation; the differences are very small. But for someone new to smartwatches or looking to upgrade from a older model, the Huawei Watch GT 7 represents one of the most sensible options on the current market.
The only real missing feature that could deter those who need it is the ECG sensor, but at just over €250, all the other qualities of this smartwatch could still persuade you to pass.
