Xiaomi SkyNomad N70 and N90 are the new EREV SUVs: all the latest details revealed

Recently Xiaomi announced the new SkyNomad series, a family of SUVs designed for those seeking space, comfort and long-range autonomy on long trips. The peculiarity of the range is the use of the EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) technology, a solution that combines electric driving with a gasoline engine used exclusively as a generator to recharge the battery.

The goal is to offer the driving experience typical of an electric car while minimizing charging anxiety, especially during longer trips.

While waiting to learn more officially, some vehicles in the lineup have been certified by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, complete with images and technical specifications.

As highlighted in the opening, unlike the fully electric models of the Xiaomi Auto lineup, the SkyNomad series uses a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that does not transmit power to the wheels, but serves as a generator when the battery needs energy.

In this way the SUV keeps moving thanks to the electric motors, maintaining the smooth driving feel typical of an EV and ensuring greater freedom on trips.

The first model in the lineup is SkyNomad N70, a 4.96-meter-long SUV with a five-seat cabin. Two versions are planned:

  • SkyNomad N70, rear-wheel drive, with an electric motor of 210 kW (282 HP);

From an aesthetic standpoint, the SUV features semi-hidden door handles, electric running boards and a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof to support advanced driver assistance systems.
