In Lei Jun’s company, there isn’t only the Xiaomi 18 series, but also a new top-of-the-line foldable. The device has been teased first by rumors, then by clues in the HyperOS code – and finally – here comes a first live photo.
Clearly, this is a shot to be taken with caution, but it still clearly shows what should be the new design of the next Fold model.
The new wide format is ready to conquer the foldable category: the next Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be equipped with this passport-style design (with a 4:3 display), and the same will happen with the much-discussed folding iPhone.
The Xiaomi model will follow the same trend but with its own identity: as also emerged from HyperOS 4, when closed the phone will have a distinctive D-shaped form due to its strongly rounded edges. The alleged live photo seems to show us this look, together with a quick glimpse of the new version of Xiaomi’s interface.
The device will arrive with Android 17 and HyperOS 4.0, while the internal codename should be lhasa. There are still quite a few doubts about the foldable’s commercial name: initially there were rumors of Xiaomi 17 Fold, but now it seems too late since we are very close to the unveiling of the Xiaomi 18 series.
At this point Lei Jun’s company could again opt for Xiaomi MIX Fold 5, or jump to MIX Fold 6. There is also the possibility of a Xiaomi 18 Fold, but for now all are hypotheses without any certainty.
In terms of hardware, the new foldable should move beyond Snapdragon solutions in favor of the new proprietary XRING O3. The SoC is expected to feature a higher clock frequency than the previous generation, still with a 3 nm manufacturing process.
To power it all there would be a 6,000 mAh battery with wireless charging support, while the camera system would include a 200 MP main sensor. The phone would have a horizontal island on the back and Leica lenses.
The inner display should measure around 7.5″ or 7.6″ and have an almost invisible crease. There would be water and dust resistance as well as a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
The launch of Xiaomi’s foldable is expected for August, at least according to the leaks so far. Obviously we expect only the debut in China and there will certainly be no Global counterpart. Among the recent leaks we also find the possible price: the alleged MIX Fold 5 could be an affordable model, offered at around 10,000 yuan (about €1,290 at current exchange rate).
