Samsung’s summer tradition continues this year as well, with the debut of a new generation of foldable flagship devices. However this time something has changed in the manufacturer’s usual lineup: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 introduces a new form and presents itself as the brand’s first wide foldable.
Simultaneously, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has been added, aimed at users seeking maximum performance and the classic Samsung foldable format. Finally, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 series closes: the clamshell smartphone returns with a new version, still in a compact form and with a wide external display.

Galaxy Z Fold 8
The main novelty of the generation is the introduction of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8: don’t be fooled by the name, because the flagship has nothing in common with its predecessor. The device introduces in the series the wide format, already seen thanks to Huawei Pura X Max (unfortunately a Chinese exclusive).
The usual narrow and elongated design gives way to a pair of displays in 10:16 (external) and 4:3 (internal), aspect ratios that render a more compact look. As we have stressed on many occasions, the phone resembles a passport: a compact booklet easy to grip that, when opened, unfolds all of its potential.
This format allows you to hold in your hands a small tablet, with all the convenience that comes with it for both multimedia viewing and multitasking.
The two Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays measure 5.5″ and 7.6″ diagonal, with LTPO technology and a dynamic refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. The fingerprint reader is positioned on the side while the chassis is IP48-rated, against dust and water.
The entire Galaxy Z series this year introduces the new proprietary Flex Titanium technology, which significantly reduces the visibility of the crease thanks to the combination of a titanium alloy film and an improved titanium plate.
Moving inside, the heart of the flagship is a SoC we know well: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 For Galaxy, the same one powering Galaxy S26 Ultra. This is a 3 nm chipset optimized for performance, with a 30% boost in CPU, GPU and NPU versus the previous generation.
Turning to the battery, the new Galaxy Z Fold 8 exceeds one of the series’ historic limits: finally the 4,400 mAh figure is a distant memory and the latest arrival introduces a 4,800 mAh unit. No silicon-carbon this time, and in our deep dive we explained the reason behind some brands’ choices.
Also on the fast charging front the outlook is positive, with the introduction of 45W. The 20W wireless charging option is also present: fortunately, it is not an exclusive of the bigger brother.
Camera system of the first wide Samsung phone comes with a trade-off: instead of the usual triple camera setup, the Korean giant has settled for a dual camera. This is the price to pay to achieve a more compact form factor than usual, with a larger battery and a slim profile.
The 50 MP main sensor features optical stabilization and is paired with a 50 MP ultra-wide as well.
The Dual Recording feature allows recording both sides of the scene simultaneously, while also letting you monitor your framing via the external display, making it easier to capture reactions and shared experiences.
Meanwhile, My FanCam automatically tracks the selected subject and adapts the framing to the chosen format, turning more dynamic scenes into social-ready content with less manual editing.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
With the addition of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the company caters to the series purists: in this case the “Ultra” label serves to distinguish the device from the standard (wide) model, but in reality we are looking at the same old Z Fold.
We again find the classic narrow and elongated format, with more generous dimensions than the starting version. The aesthetics are the ones we have grown used to over generations and the design closely mirrors that of Galaxy Z Fold 7 — except for the stunning new deep purple color (Violet Shadow).
Again we have a pair of Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays of 6.5″ (external) and 8.0″ (internal), always with LTPO refresh rate up to 120 Hz. The first novelty concerns the switch to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 For Galaxy, Qualcomm’s flagship chipset developed in collaboration with Samsung.
But the most awaited addition concerns something else: as with the wide model, we finally see a battery increase. The foldable reaches 5,000 mAh, a real milestone for the series; it also gains the fast charging 45W, along with wireless charging at 20W.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra introduces a new charging architecture Dual DCIC, designed to distribute energy more efficiently inside the battery system and ensure faster, steadier and more reliable charging throughout the day.
Additionally the flagship adopts a larger graphite cooling structure, designed to improve thermal conductivity, promote more efficient heat dissipation and keep the device responsive even during the most demanding tasks.
Also new for the camera department, as you would expect from an “Ultra”: the main sensor remains at 200 MP (with optical stabilization) and the same goes for the telephoto (10 MP with 3x optical zoom and OIS); however Samsung has updated the ultra-wide to 50 MP.
For more experienced and demanding creators, 8K video recording with the new APV codec offers greater flexibility and quality in editing and post-production workflows, while Cine LUT lets you apply from the smartphone a cinematic look and color grading.
The Nightography feature, further improved7, allows brighter and sharper photos and videos even in low-light conditions, so you can capture every moment with quality results in any situation.

One UI 9 brings with it two new features
All phones in the new generation debut with One UI 9.0, which introduces a feature designed for those who want to know exactly what the smart functions are doing behind the scenes. It is the new AI Assistant Activity dashboard, a centralized screen that shows all automations and actions performed by artificial intelligence on behalf of the user.
No more tedious searches among various settings menus: from a single panel you can control access for individual AI agents and modify permissions on the fly.
In addition, there are Enhanced Privacy Alerts, proactive notifications that warn the user in case of potential risks (such as an app attempting to access permissions in the background unjustifiably), allowing you to intervene before data ends up where it should not.
Price and availability in Italy
It had been in the air for some time and now there is confirmation: the new Samsung foldable lineup arrives with a series of price increases compared to the previous generation, a tangible consequence of the memory crisis (which has led to higher production costs and things are likely to get worse).
The most affordable model remains the Z Flip 8, now starting at €1,379. Moving to the wide-foldable Z Fold 8, this starts at €2,099, rising to €2,299 for the “new” Ultra.
