Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2: new chipset and bigger battery, but price goes up

The 22 July will host the summer Unpacked event and, as usual, will be both the stage for Samsung’s latest-generation foldables and the new wearables lineup.

After taking a close look at the design thanks to leaked images, now several details about the specifications are emerging: here’s what we can expect from Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, arriving with top-tier features — but at a higher price than the previous models.

The design of Galaxy Watch 9 mirrors that of the previous generation: the leaked images from the past days show the return of the Cushion Design, characterized by a squircle-like case (that is, square with rounded corners) and a circular display inside. The aesthetics closely follow the style of Galaxy Watch 8 while the real novelties are under the hood.

Samsung won’t use proprietary chips on all models anymore, but will instead mount the SoC Snapdragon Wear Elite. This is the Qualcomm SW6100 chip, a 64-bit processor built with a 3-nanometer process and equipped with five cores: specifically, it offers a high-performance main core at 2.1 GHz and four energy-efficient cores up to 1.95 GHz.

Again there will be two versions: the 44 mm one (with a display of about 1.5″ with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels) and a 40 mm one (with a screen of about 1.3″ and a resolution of 438 x 438 pixels).

On memory, we should have 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The other novelty concerns the battery: the 40 mm Galaxy Watch 9 should mount the same 325 mAh solution, while the 44 mm model would have a 445 mAh unit, slightly larger.

Finally, connectivity improves with support for Bluetooth 6.0; NFC and Dual-Band Wi-Fi will be present, along with optional 4G LTE. ECG functionality should not be missing, while the software would be One UI 9 Watch, based on Wear OS 7. This year there will be no Classic version, at least according to the leaks so far.

Moving on to Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, again the design mirrors that of its predecessor. The only exception is the numbers around the bezel, while in terms of size we are talking about a rugged 47 mm smartwatch, significantly bulkier than the standard model.

The device would feature the same novelties as Watch 9 but with the addition of an extra-large 800 mAh battery, compared to the 590 mAh of the first chapter. Clearly, the device’s durability also improves, with water resistance up to 100 meters — Watch 9 stops at 5 ATM.

The price leak: price increases on the horizon for the new Galaxy Watches

Better tech will also come with a price increase, at least according to leaks thanks to Roland Quandt (an insider usually very reliable). Galaxy Watch 9 should start from €409 and €439, for the 40/44 mm Bluetooth versions, compared to €379 and €409 of the Watch 8 lineup. The rugged Watch Ultra 2 should rise to €749: remember that the first Ultra was launched in Italy at €699.

  • Galaxy Watch 9 – 40 mm – BT | 409€
  • Galaxy Watch 9 – 40 mm – LTE | 459€
  • Galaxy Watch 9 – 44 mm – BT | 439€
  • Galaxy Watch 9 – 44 mm – LTE | 489€
  • Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 – LTE | 749€
