Nearly three years have passed since the release of the second chapter, and the times are now clearly ripe for a new tracker. Fortunately it seems that Samsung has listened to users’ prayers: according to a well-known insider, the next Galaxy SmartTag 3 would be on the horizon — and it seems we won’t have to wait long.
The new incarnation of Samsung’s smart tag is expected to debut in September, during the presentation of the Galaxy S26 FE. The traditional budget flagship does not yet have a precise date and has not been confirmed by the company; however a case manufacturer has revealed the supposed design and there is also an initial draft of the specifications.
In addition to the smartphone, the autumn event will also see the arrival of Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 3: this is revealed by Roland Quandt, one of the most reliable insiders in the field. Unfortunately the leaker has not spoken out on this, and details are still missing about both the design and the technical specifications.
Anyway, the return of Samsung’s tracker is certainly welcome: Galaxy SmartTag 2 was released in 2023 with support for Bluetooth 5.3 and compatibility with the SmartThings Find ecosystem.
Therefore it’s reasonable to expect updates both for Bluetooth and for location systems other than the proprietary one (fingers crossed). Google’s Find Hub support could change the playing field, but the company’s intentions for now are not known.
Another aspect that could change is the design: the first chapter debuted with a square shape, with rounded corners and a small hole; the successor features an elongated body and a large ring, reinforced in metal.
The third chapter could mirror the aesthetics of the previous generation, or introduce a completely new look. Finally, it’s to see whether there will be improvements in battery life (SmartTag 2 has a duration of up to 500 days and up to 700 days in energy-saving mode).
Clearly, underneath the new graphical changes there will still be Android 17. It should be…
