Galaxy Z Fold 8, the display is almost crease-free: Samsung reveals its secret

Samsung has unveiled Flex Titanium, a new technology developed for the upcoming Galaxy foldable smartphones (arriving July 22). The goal is to improve two aspects that have always been at the center of attention: the crease visibility and the long-term display durability, without sacrificing a slim design and lightness.

The solution comes after seven generations of Fold device development and aims to offer an experience even closer to that of a traditional smartphone.

The heart of Flex Titanium is represented by two new components: a titanium alloy film and a support plate, also made of titanium.

Samsung chose this material for its high strength-to-weight ratio, characteristics that make it suitable for particularly complex applications. The main challenge was to make it flexible enough to withstand thousands of opening and closing cycles without compromising the panel’s durability.

To achieve this, the company developed new manufacturing processes that allow titanium to maintain its mechanical properties even in a foldable device.

A sturdier structure and a crease less visible

The titanium alloy film is placed directly under the OLED panel and, according to Samsung, provides mechanical rigidity about 20 times higher than traditional polymer films.

Despite this, the layer remains extremely thin, with a thickness of about one third of a human hair, helping keep the device profile particularly compact.

Supporting the display is a new titanium plate equipped with a special micro-perforated structure. This solution eliminates gaps between the display and the adhesive layer, offering a more uniform surface when the smartphone is open and at the same time improving flexibility in the crease area.

Better image quality and reduced power consumption

Flex Titanium doesn’t just aim for robustness. Samsung says the new architecture also integrates next-generation organic materials designed to deliver brighter image rendering while also reducing the display’s energy consumption.

The particular processing of the titanium plate, with micro-perforations in the folding area, also helps distribute mechanical stresses more evenly, helping preserve the screen’s durability over time.

Debut with the upcoming Galaxy Fold devices

Samsung has confirmed that Flex Titanium will debut with the next generation of Galaxy foldable smartphones.

The company will showcase these innovations in more detail during Galaxy Unpacked on July 22: note that during the event both Galaxy Z Fold 8 (the brand’s first wide-form-factor foldable) and Z Fold 8 Ultra, along with the clamshell model Z Flip 8, are expected to debut.

The devices have already surfaced in leaks, with images and details on specifications. There will also be coverage of Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2, Samsung’s new premium wearables.
