Motorola expands its premium smartphone lineup with the new Edge 70 Max, a model aimed at competing with the top flagships thanks to a number of impressive features.
Among its strengths we find the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a 7,100 mAh battery, a 7,000-nit AMOLED display and several AI-based features: here are the new features and price details in Europe (but we are awaiting confirmations regarding our country).
The new Edge 70 Max is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform, a chipset that offers a 36% increase in CPU performance and an 11% increase in GPU performance over the previous generation. It also includes up to 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of internal UFS 4.1 storage.
To keep temperatures under control even during gaming and intensive multitasking, Motorola has integrated a 5,500 mm2 vapor chamber cooling system based on liquid metal.
On the front of the screen we have an Extreme AMOLED LTPO panel of 6,8″ with Quad HD+ resolution and a refresh rate up to 144 Hz. The standout figure is the declared maximum brightness of 7,000 nits, a value that enables optimal visibility even under direct sunlight.
One of the most interesting elements of the new Edge 70 Max is the silicon-carbon battery of 7.100 mAh. Motorola claims a battery life of up to 58 hours on a single charge, while the 90 W TurboPower fast charging promises enough energy for an entire day in just 6 minutes.
Wireless charging is also available Qi2.2 25W, with magnets integrated under the chassis. This is a solution similar to Apple’s MagSafe technology, thus with support for magnetic charging without the need to use dedicated covers (as is often the case in the Android landscape).
The new smartphone also introduces Motorola Qira, an artificial intelligence platform developed to integrate smartphones, tablets and PCs into a single ecosystem. Among the available features we find Catch Me Up, which summarizes notifications and recent activity, and Pay Attention, designed to automatically generate the main points of meetings and conversations.
Despite the particularly capacious battery, Edge 70 Max maintains a refined design thanks to an aircraft-grade aluminum frame and a matte glass back available in various Pantone colors. The smartphone is also certified MIL-STD-810H, IP68 and IP69 for water and dust resistance.
The camera system is led by a 50 MP main sensor Sony LYTIA 710, supported by AI algorithms and Pantone SkinTone certification, designed to deliver a more natural reproduction of skin tones.
Edge 70 Max was launched in configurations of 8/256 GB and 12/256 GB, also in Europe. As for Italy, the price is €899 for the standard version only: at the time of writing the device is not yet purchasable and we do not know if the higher 12 GB RAM version will also be added.
According to what is reported on the site, the smartphone arrives with the Moto Buds Loop earbuds and a 125W charger. We note that in Italy the lesser siblings Edge 70 and Edge 70 Pro were also launched.
