As attention focuses on the imminent OnePlus 16, with its alleged bezel-less display, fascinating details emerge about another device in the works.
According to recent rumors from Asia, the company has already begun development of a smartphone with more compact dimensions but with top-tier performance.
However, alongside the excitement for the technical specifications, a complex commercial situation is taking shape that could disappoint many Western enthusiasts.
OnePlus 16T will happen, but you won’t be able to get it

Information disclosed on the platform Weibo by the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station indicates that the design of the new OnePlus 16T has officially begun.
The actual launch of the device is expected only in the first months of next year, but the initial details emerging outline a highly interesting device. The smartphone is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display with a refresh rate defined as extremely high by sources.
Under the hood, the device will almost certainly house a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor, although it has not yet been definitively clarified whether the base version or the more powerful Pro variant of the chip will be used.
Being in an early development phase, the engineers are still defining the final specifications, but the direction taken seems clear.
If we analyze the trajectory traced by previous models, expectations for the new birth are very high. The current OnePlus 15T has already shown it can offer impressive hardware, including a 6.32-inch AMOLED display at 165 Hz, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, up to 1 TB of storage and up to 12 GB of RAM.
Despite the decidedly compact chassis, the current model hides a 7,500 mAh battery supported by 100 W wired charging.
A potential and logical improvement of these characteristics on the OnePlus 16T would place the device well above its direct rivals, easily surpassing the charging and battery life capabilities of highly anticipated smartphones like the iPhone 18, Galaxy S27, and Pixel 11.
Even the flagship options from Apple, Google and Samsung struggle to compete with the energy density and the battery-recovery speeds offered by these Asian smartphones.
The availability problem
Here lies the negative aspect of the whole affair. The impressive technical specifications of the OnePlus 16T risk becoming an exclusive to the Chinese domestic market.
The company is undergoing international downsizing, culminating in the recent removal of its products from the shelves of Best Buy in the United States.
This event follows closely the news regarding the brand’s global operations closure global operations closure as of April.
In the past, distribution had already faced strong territorial limitations: the OnePlus 13T was renamed OnePlus 13s exclusively for India, excluding Europe and the United States, while the recent OnePlus 15T has never crossed the borders of its homeland.
