The update’s new features

The real protagonist is the Google AI ecosystem. With Gemini Omni, video creation and editing become conversational, merging text, images and clips. Additionally, AI now allows generating high-quality audio tracks starting from a photo or a textual description.

AI also lands on Instagram thanks to a partnership with Meta: native Ultra HDR support arrives, the Night Sight mode integrated in the app, and the Sound separation feature to isolate the voice from background noise in videos.

On the multitasking front, the evolution of mobile bubbles stands out, allowing you to turn any app into a floating window (up to 5 simultaneously). On tablets and foldables, these windows are organized in a new and efficient Bubble Bar positioned at the bottom.

Also for foldables, the Foldable gaming mode debuts, turning half the screen into a true digital gamepad during gaming sessions. The screen recording experience has also been refreshed, now incorporating live reactions via the selfie camera without the need for external software.

Finally, Google has locked down the OS: Android 17 introduces the Mark as lost in Find Hub, an enhancement of Live Threat Detection against scam apps and more severe timed blocks in case of repeated incorrect attempts to unlock the device.

The update is already distributing: if you don’t find it waiting automatically, just go to “Settings > System > System updates” and then “Check for updates” to verify the presence of the new software.
