Two events in May, both aimed at the Chinese market but that could have very interesting implications for us in the West as well. Xiaomi 17 Max has a presentation date and it wonu2019t be alone: alongside the maxi-format flagship there will also be other noteworthy novelties.
In the meantime, the rival company has also lifted the curtain on its new devices: OPPO Reno 16 and 16 Pro will debut in a few days and this month promises to be particularly hot for tech lovers.
Xiaomi 17 Max, official presentation date: details and upcoming novelties

Let’s start with Xiaomi’s beast, a device that leaves no doubt from its name. Xiaomi 17 Max aims to offer a different experience compared to the standard model: not a compact design but a form factor that leaves no room for compromise.
The aesthetics are similar to the base device but the screen rises to a 6.9″ diagonal, the battery shoots up to 8,000 mAh and — for the first time in the regular series — we find a main sensor of 200 MP. The appointment is set for the 21 May in China, and yet it’s worth looking carefully at the coming novelties.
Almost certainly the Max model will remain a Chinese-exclusive, but the event will also see the debut of Xiaomi Smart Band 10 Pro and the in-ear headphones Clip Ear Headphones. The two accessories have enormous potential for the Italian launch: clearly the final word rests with the brand, so we stay tuned.
Finally there will be room also for cars, with Xiaomi YU7 GT: the company’s electric SUV becomes sporty and aims for exceptional performance.
OPPO Reno 16 and 16 Pro ready for debut: here is when they will arrive

Moving on to OPPO Reno 16 and 16 Pro, the mid-range duo is expected for 25 May: official information is still scarce but rumors certainly abound. Based on what has leaked, the series should adopt a different aesthetic — in the style of OnePlus 15.
The base model would sport an OLED display of 6.32″ 1.5K while the larger Pro would aim for a different format, with 6.78″ 1.5K and LTPO technology. The base would feature the Dimensity 8550 chipset and a 6,700 mAh battery; the higher-end version would move up to the Dimensity 9500s and 7,000 mAh.
Both would have 80W fast charging but only the Pro would offer wireless charging (50W). The series is expected to include a triple camera setup of 200 + 50 + 50 MP with a Samsung HP5 main sensor, ultrawide and periscope zoom.
The Reno 16 series is also likely to arrive in Italy but, knowing OPPO, it’s probable that we’ll see different specifications; there could also be the addition of Reno 16 F, the entry-level model of the family.
