While we in the West await the Xiaomi 17T series, Chinese users will soon be able to enjoy an event from Lei Jun’s company as well. However in their case the Xiaomi 17 Max will arrive, a boosted version of the standard model.
The device will offer a larger display, a new main camera, and more battery capacity: precisely this last aspect is the focus of an official video published by the brand, which shows the upcoming flagship in comparison with Apple’s top model.
In the video published on the Chinese social network Weibo, the Xiaomi 17 Max challenges the iPhone 17 Pro Max: the company has always had a penchant for challenging its US rival, so the comparison isn’t surprising. The result, however, is stunning and it’s all thanks to the 8,000 mAh battery of the new flagship.
Compared with the standard Xiaomi 17, the Max variant adopts a huge unit – still with silicon-carbon technology, ultra-fast charging, and support for wireless charging. In the test conducted by the company, the Xiaomi 17 Max and iPhone 17 Pro Max were engaged in continuous video playback to gauge the endurance of each model.
Indeed, the Xiaomi flagship reached 33.3 hours of screen-on time and video playback, while the US rival finished around 16 hours. So, in summary, the Chinese device can outlast two iPhones under the same conditions.
The launch event for the new 17 Max is set for May 21 in China: for now, any Global version has been ruled out and the device should remain an Asian-exclusive. Meanwhile, in Italy we await May 28, the day of the Xiaomi 17T launch.
