How has the view of football changed? Thierry Henry and Samsung’s perspective

In London, the atmosphere of grand occasions has framed a reflection on the future of sports entertainment. Samsung has chosen an iconic figure like Thierry Henry to explore how the perception of football is shifting from the green rectangle to the home screen, bringing the fans’ experience ever closer to the reality lived by professional athletes.

The event, titled “In Conversation with Thierry Henry“, highlighted how technology is no longer merely support, but the main means to grasp the essence of a sport that lives on infinitesimal details.

Thierry Henry, during the dialogue with journalist Ben Jacobs, shared a perspective developed over decades of career between the pitch, the bench and television studios. For Henry, top-level football is played on the ability to read spaces and anticipate movements in fractions of a second.

When a fan watches the match from home, the quality of viewing becomes fundamental to not lose that narrative tension made of sudden bursts and millimetre-perfect refereeing decisions.

If the image is not sharp or the movement is blurred, a large part of the emotional component is lost that makes football the most-followed sport in the world. This need for precision has driven research toward solutions that remove the barriers between the spectator and the action.

Technically, the focus has shifted to Micro RGB technology. This system represents a sharp deviation from traditional backlighting methods, as it relies on microscopic LEDs of red, green and blue that generate light autonomously and directly.

The visible result is an extremely high contrast and color fidelity that maintains its integrity even during the fastest actions, such as a long clearance or a powerful shot.

During live tests conducted in London, it emerged how large formats and anti-reflective OLED treatments allow maintaining an optimal viewing experience even in very bright environments, simulating the real conditions of a modern living room or a public venue where natural light and ambient distractions are constant.

The Subtle Role of Artificial Intelligence

The evolution of viewing also passes through software processing that acts almost invisibly to the user. Samsung has introduced specific features such as AI Football Mode and AI Sound Controller Pro, which analyze video and audio streams in real time to balance the crowd sounds and improve the clarity of moving players.

The integration of the Vision AI Companion suggests an idea of a television that is no longer a passive device, but a system capable of interpreting the context and the viewer’s preferences.

In this way, the system automatically adapts to deliver a smooth image and immersive sound, transforming every matchday into a personalized experience that “preserves the stadium atmosphere” while remaining within the walls of the home.
