The Android Show – I/O Edition is scheduled for 12 May and will allow us to get an official first look at the new features of the upcoming version of Google’s Android OS. The famous mascot of the Android world appears in a short teaser video in a translucent version, and there are references to a new futuristic design.
It’s long been rumored that Apple’s Liquid Glass-inspired style would arrive, and official confirmation has now arrived. Android 17 will present a look with translucent icons and elements, with a glass effect and lighting plays: the teaser for The Android Show is quite clear on this.
Among the many features that could have been “taken” from the rival company, Google chose the most divisive one. On one hand there was an evolution of the iOS interface, but a portion of Cupertino’s ecosystem users did not appreciate the visual effects, too intrusive and not very customizable; in short, not exactly the best for readability and accessibility.
It’s worth noting that some images have already emerged showing what the glass effect of the new Android will look like: clearly we are talking about early software, so things could change by the time of the stable debut — expected for June.
Regarding the Google I/O 2026, it will take place on May 19 and 20: in addition to discussing the OS there will certainly be room for artificial intelligence; the hardware portion remains uncertain, as the Mountain View company has been quite vague about it.
