April saw the launch of several Redmi novelties in China, but as often happens these do not stay limited for long. In fact, the brand’s new budget tablet has already arrived in an international version, albeit only in certain markets. However it is a sign of a wide-scale release, likely also on our shores (in the future).
Let’s explore all the updates of Redmi Pad 2 9.7, the alternative version of Xiaomi’s budget tablet from last year (also featured in our review).

For the new tablet, Xiaomi has chosen an approach with different names: the model presented in China is called Redmi Pad 2 SE while the globally announced one debuts as Redmi Pad 2 9.7, as if to emphasize the real difference with the standard version.
Indeed the device offers a smaller display, moving from the 11-inch Pad 2 to a 9.7-inch diagonal with 2K resolution and an improved refresh rate – rising from 90 Hz to 120 Hz. However the more compact dimensions are not the only addition: the chipset is now a Qualcomm solution, namely the Snapdragon 6s Gen 2 (while Pad 2 uses the Helio G100 Ultra).
Smaller dimensions also mean less space for the battery, which drops to 7,600 mAh with support for 15W charging. The end result is an affordable tablet with a premium look, featuring a metal chassis and a slim profile of only 7.4 mm in thickness.
Among other features we have HyperOS 3 software, support for Google’s Circle and Search feature, 8 and 5 MP cameras (main and front) and a handy 3.5 mm headphone jack.
The new Redmi Pad 2 9.7 starts at a starting price of about €153 at current exchange, while the 4G model costs around €180 at the rate. The launch has taken place in Singapore and Malaysia, but it is very likely that availability will be extended to other markets in the coming months.
