Samsung Galaxy S27, the lineup could include a fourth smartphone and it’s not an “Edge”

The first rumors regarding the upcoming Galaxy S27 family are starting to surface online, outlining a strategy that could present interesting innovations for consumers.

According to information reported in these hours by the Korean news outlet ET News, the Asian company would be considering an unexpected expansion of its flagship offering.

Samsung Galaxy S27 could also become “Pro”

For several years, the usual early-year launch window has seen the debut of three main variants: the base model, the Plus version, and the Ultra variant. However, new rumors indicate that Seoul’s leadership could introduce an additional fourth unreleased device, which would bear the name Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro.

The device should share several build and technological characteristics with its Ultra sibling, albeit accepting some limitations to keep production costs down.

Although the precise details of the specifications are still fragmentary, given the notable time distance from the presumed launch date, Korean sources highlight a particularly significant omission: the Galaxy S27 Pro will neither include nor support the S Pen. The famous stylus, now a standard feature of Ultra models for several generations, will remain an exclusive of the top tier.

Conversely, to attract customers, the new Pro model could inherit the Privacy Display. This screen-security feature has represented one of the main selling points of the current Galaxy S26 Ultra and extending it to a lower price tier could prove a winning commercial choice.

The abandonment of the Edge project

The idea of a quartet of smartphones marks a clear departure from the original plans hypothesized in the past. Just last year, in fact, several rumors suggested the company’s intention to replace the Galaxy S26 Plus with a slimmer-design model named “Edge”, a project directly inspired by the lines of the previous Galaxy S25 Edge.

The poor sales performance of the latter would, however, have convinced the leadership to take a step back to avoid risk, keeping intact the traditional trio of phones for the S26 series. Current rumors therefore suggest that the new Pro will be added to the rest of the lineup, without sacrificing the Plus model.

What to expect from the rest of the lineup

As for the other technical characteristics of the entire S27 family, the picture is still evolving. Leaks from the past months have hinted at a possible upgrade to the main camera sensor for the Ultra variant, though without providing the specific technical details on the real capabilities of the new lenses.

In addition to the camera setup, it is logical to expect the usual annual advances in terms of raw computing power, battery life and, above all, greater integration of artificial intelligence-based features, a sector in which the company is investing heavily.

We will still have to wait a considerable time before these initial elements translate into official specifications.
